New circus trainer

Cirkus Surreal is very pleased to welcome Stuart Christie to their fold. Stuart will be our principal trainer on a Wednesday for this and next year. He will be conducting training in the morning, sport and will offer assistance with the year 9/10 Circus Studies class. He is also taking a year 7 circus group once a fortnight. His bio is as follows.

Stuart Christie graduated from the National Institute of Circus Arts in 2004 with a Bachelor of Circus Arts. He was worked with companies such as: Kage Theatre for the World Expo 2005 in Japan and in their Dance Theatre work Sundowner 2011/12. Circus Oz 2006-08 as a full time performer. In 2012 Dos or Duo were nominated for the Innovation and Excellence in Circus Green Room award for their second show Dos or Duo “Deux”.

Between contracts and performance, Stuart engaged in teaching circus to both professionals and community from 2003 to the present. He has also worked with disengaged youth with Circus Oz, as well as serious circus buffs in Tasmania, Mullumbimby and Melbourne Aerial Arts and Circus Festivals.

Whilst living in Melbourne Stuart was one of the main trainers for a 3 term project in Cardinia, one of the outer suburbs in Melbourne working with disengaged youth to create a student lead creation call “Shadows on the Footpath” directed by Luke O’Connor and performed in the Cardinia Theatre on the 21st November 2008.

The classes he specializes in at Aerialize are: Advanced Corde Lisse (vertical rope), Silks, Double trapeze, Solo static trapeze, and is one of the main trainers for the performance troupe. At Bah-hah he teaches Silks and also a range of acrobatics, tumbling, acro-balance and hand-balancing classes.

Sponsorship news

We are very happy to announce the continued support of Bathurst RSL Club who has just agreed to sponsor our new tour jackets and shirts.

Cirkus Surreal have proudly entered a contract with Mayfield Gardens to perform during their Spring, Summer and Autumn Open Days and special events. We are delighted to have such an inspiring performance space and very grateful for the opportunity. The last two performances, The White Party and Mayfield Garden Media Event have been a wonderful chance to showcase the talent of our troupe to the wider community and of course our unique and beautiful costumes. We will be performing at Mayfield again on October 21st during The Cool Climate Wine and Food Festival and we are looking forward to strengthening our partnership into the future.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors from our previous highly successful international tour and we look forward to their continued support.
